Alderney To Take Part in the iGaming Jurisdiction Showcase

Alderney, the tiny island in the English Channel, which is fast becoming a popular regulatory environment for online casino operators, is to attend the iGaming Jurisdiction Showcase (event details) this Tuesday to attract potential business to its shores. Andre Wilsenach, CEO of the Alderney Gambling Control Commission; Robin Le Prevost, Business Development Manager at Cable and Wireless and Michael Harrisson, a lawyer at Carey Olsen and the Resident Nominee of Ritz Interactive, will be present to explain why so many companies are choosing the Channel Island as an attractive destination for their iGaming operations.

The seminar, significantly, will coincide with the publication of the Alderney Gambling Control Commission’s annual report for 2003, which shows the extent to which the island is becoming a pre-eminent jurisdiction for companies wishing to establish operations in a fully regulated environment. Last year the Alderney Gambling Control Commission had issued ten licences to well known brands both in the UK and US, including names such as Sky, Ritz, Rank, Harrah’s, Venetian, WagerWorks, CryptoLogic and Paddy Power. Since the beginning of this year, the Commission has issued a further licence to Blue Square and will this month consider the application for the Virgin online casino.

The island offers operators a comprehensive and tightly controlled regime, with low corporate taxes, no VAT and no gaming taxes. In addition, Alderney offers a state of the art telecommunication infrastructure and hosting facilities and is recognised, unlike certain other offshore destinations, by the major gambling jurisdictions in the rest of the world, including the UK, Europe and the US. Alderney feels that businesses which take advantage of these conditions now, are likely to be the ones which dominate the market in the future.
