Naked Justice
Mark Roberts, the Golden Palace streaker who danced onto the field at the Super Bowl last Feb wearing nothing but a thong and the name of the online casino emblazoned over his body, is to stand trial on a misdemeanour trespassing charge. He appeared at a Houston County Court (this time wearing a suit) on Thursday to hear the judge set a trial date of June 21. If convicted he could face up to six months in jail and pay a fine of up to $2000.
Police say Roberts infiltrated several layers of security dressed as a referee before whipping off the disguise and jigging his way to notoriety. He was eventually tackled by New England Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham.
Roberts does not deny he was the Super Bowl streaker, but his defence is expected to argue that no one told him that he wasn’t allowed to run onto the field half naked. 'I wonder how many witnesses they'll call?' he mused, referring to the ten of thousands of spectators in the stadium at the time.
Roberts, 39, from Liverpool, England, has streaked over three hundred times at sporting events around the world. He recently pleaded ‘not guilty’ in a Paris court to a charge of ‘outraging the morals of the French people.’
