Filipino Proposal To Create Gaming Regulator
In the Philippines, a ranking Member of the House of Representatives is pushing for the creation of a National Gaming Commission in order to centralize the regulation and supervision of games and maximize State earnings.
Quezon Representative Danilo Suarez is Chairman of the House Committee on oversight and stated that the Federal Government would collect more taxes and fees if it were allowed to assume the role of a regulatory body for gambling and gaming.
'We can ensure maximisation of earnings from casinos, lotto and sweepstakes operations, small time lottery (STL), cockfighting and horseracing games and other numbers games if we centralise all Government regulations and supervision over gaming and gambling in the country,' said Suarez.
He stated that the Government is currently unstructured and scattered when it came to regulating gambling and his House Bill 4192 would create a National Gaming Commission to regulate the operation of casinos, a job currently handled by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). The Commission would also look after lotteries and sweepstakes run by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office along with horseracing events operated by the Philippine Racing Commission. The body would be composed of one commissioner with four deputy commissioners, each taking charge of one specific area of gambling in the nation.
