The Atlantic Lottery Corp has announced that it wants to turn its new eClub Reward site into one of Canada’s first legal online casinos. The club, which has 24,000 subscribers, currently offers competitions and ‘light-hearted’ games, such as online air hockey, in return for submitting personal information. According to the agency’s president, Michelle Carinci, it is being used to create a database of potential online gamers.

“If we were to go online, yes certainly we would have a database of players that have already shown an interest that we could open up the market to fairly quickly,” he told the Canadian Press.

The database, which includes players’ ages, addresses and even mothers’ maiden names, would, should the project go ahead, allow the corporation to offer gambling without violating the Canadian prohibition on inter-provincial sales, as they could use it to prove that its gamblers are of legal age and from the region.

Speculation abounds that other provinces are planning similar schemes, with the Canadian Press pointing out that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp is asking customers to either mail, e-mail or fax personal information and a credit card numbers to the corporation when selling subscriptions.
