Mysterious Patent Dispute

There’s been a whiff of disharmony in the air this week which suggests the Home Gaming Network and CasinoWebcam are not completely seeing eye-to-eye over their recent licensing agreement. In a high profile deal last November, HGN, which aggressively defends its patent for the concept of ‘live over the internet’ gambling, granted CWC a license to use the concept and sub-license other companies.

Eyebrows were raised, therefore, when earlier this week HGN boss Mel Molnick issued a statement claiming his company had terminated this agreement: “HGN and Mel Molnick no longer have any relationship with CasinoWebCam,” he said. “CasinoWebCam has no rights to use the HGN patent nor does it have any rights to sub-license the patent to gaming operators, and there is no association between Home Gambling Network and Mel Molnick in efforts to enforce the patent.” Molnick added that any licensee believing they are covered under the 268 patent with CasinoWebCam should contact him immediately to correct the situation.

Confusion was compounded this morning when CWC Executive Adam Anhang released a contradictory press release stating, “CasinoWebcam, an industry leader in live online gaming software and services, today confirmed that its exclusive, worldwide master license agreement with Mr. Mel Molnick and Home Gambling Network is in full force and effect, and has been so since November 2003. This agreement is evidenced by a signed license agreement with Mr. Molnick in his personal and corporate capacities.

“CasinoWebcam will vigorously enforce its rights under the agreement,” he added. We await the inevitable response with interest.
