GTech Launches In Ghana

America’s GTech Global Services Corporation has announced an agreement with Pinbridge Limited that will see it supply technology solutions and consultancy services for the first online sportsbetting wagering system in Ghana.

Pinbridge is an affiliate of STL Limited, an integrated solutions provider for the West African nation, and was granted a ten-year sportsbetting license in July of 2007 by the Ghana Gaming Commission. It has an exclusive relationship with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the coverage of local soccer matches and is also planning to cover international matches.

Under the agreement, GTech, a subsidiary of Italian firm Lottomatica, will provide more than 1,500 terminals for locations such as sports bars and convenience stores along with its GO central system for the duration of the license.

Providence-based GTech stated that GO is a new base-level platform specifically designed for rapid start-ups or existing offline lotteries in developing nations with smaller retail bases that can be configured to accept wagers from traditional lottery and sportsbetting pool games. The firm revealed that it expects revenues to grow as the retailer base and product offerings in Ghana expand over time.

“With this new contract in Ghana, GTech has expanded its presence in Africa working together with our valued partner, Pinbridge, to bring the first online sportsbetting wagering system to Ghana,” said Jaymin Patel, President and Chief Executive Officer for GTech.

“Strategically, this is important for us in that we are expanding beyond traditional lottery-based offerings by delivering automated, secure wagering solutions for sportsbetting pool games in Ghana. This also marks the first deployment of our newest central system technology offering, GTech GO.

“This contract is also further evidence of the flexibility of GTech’s systems and our ability to adapt to ever-changing market requirements.”

Due to become operational in October, Pinbridge will manage all aspects of the new sportsbetting operation in Ghana and install and operate its own communications network.
