Macau looks set to break $14 billion revenue mark
Macau looks on course to shatter revenue records again this year, with $14 billion a very real possibility.
The latest figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau reveal that the region has already generated $7.41 billion in the first six months of 2008 alone, MacauHub reports.
This could signal that the former Portuguese colony is set to take more money than the US state of Nevada this year, demonstrating an incredible level of growth.
Macau only overtook Las Vegas revenue-wise a few years ago and it looks set to eclipse not only that gaming mecca in 2008, but also Reno and Hammond combined.
Nevada received just under $11.8 billion in casino bets last year, while Macau lagged behind with $10.5 billion.
Baccarat generates the majority of the money in the Chinese district, where operators have recently been bringing in performance acts such as Cirque du Soleil in order to diversify where their revenue comes from.
