In a first of its kind agreement, World Poker Tour (WPT) Enterprises Incorporated looks set to increase the popularity of poker in the world’s second most populous nation.
The American firm has signed an agreement to air its WPT television series on Zee Sports, India’s first private sports channel, from September to an estimated 500 million viewers. Zee Sports is the flagship brand of Zee Network, a media franchise for the South Asian diaspora and the world’s largest producer of Hindi programming.
'Zee Sports and WPT Enterprises together create a powerful partnership as the most trusted vehicles to introduce poker to India,' said Steve Lipscomb, President and Chief Executive Officer for WPT.
“We are delighted to be making history together.'
The agreement will see Zee Sports exclusively broadcast 19 two-hour WPT Season IV episodes in India alongside current sports programming that includes soccer, cricket, tennis, motor sports and golf while also promoting the series on-air and online through ZeeSports.co.in.
