Viewers tune in to the March Madness
The NCAA men’s basketball tournament is a fiercely contested competition that provides thrills, spills and spectacular slamdunks, and in turn has provided CBS with a strong ratings puller. CBS recorded its highest viewed competition in four years with a 5.5% cut of a potential audience of 108.4 million American homesteads.
CBS has paid approximately $390 million for the broadcast rights for the tournament and is expected to receive around $400 million in advertising fees. A small price to pay for such levels excitement some would argue.
High seeded and highly fancied outfits, such as Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi, Stanford and Gonzaga, have already fallen by the wayside. OnlineCasinoNews still had two of its three listed favourites in the elite eight but, following the loss of St. Joseph’s to Oklahoma State, only Duke is left in the Final Four. Duke are to play Connecticut in the semi-final on April 3rd and will face the winner of the crunch game between Oklahoma State and Georgia Tech. The Final is to be played on April 5th.
