Gambling habits in the US
December’s Gallup Lifestyle Poll questioned Americans as to their gambling habits and predilections. While the most common form of gambling is their respective state lotteries – almost half of all Americans had purchased a ticket in the previous 12 months – physically located casinos came a close second. Approximately one third of all surveyed said that they had visited a casino that year and 1% had used online casinos.
10% had bet on professional sports and 6% had bet on college sports, whether that was online or not was not classified. Casino attendance had increased from 20% in 1987 to 30% at the end of 2003.
Gallup looked at the likelihood of certain sections of society participating in gambling or betting. According to their research if you find a non-white male 50–64 year old who lives in a city in the Midwest with four years of college behind them then chances are they’ll have gambled in the last year. And if they have a moderate ideology, no party affiliation, seldom attend a place of worship and earn $50,000 - $75,000 a year then the odds will really be against them not indulging!
