Betfair has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Horseracing Authority of South Africa, thus gaining the acceptance so conspicuously absent in Australian horseracing industry. The agreement is the same the company has already signed with the UK Jockey Club as well as, among others, the International Cricket Council, the English Football Association, the Association of Tennis Professionals, and Cricket Australia.
Earlier this month by British Government Minister Responsible for Gambling, Lord McIntosh, urged international sporting bodies the agreement which gives them access to 'unrivalled audit trails.' He said he found it 'difficult to understand why a sporting regulator would refuse the free transfer of betting information to protect a sport’s integrity and credibility.'
Earlier this month, Andrew Harding, Head of the Australian Racing Board, described the MOU as ‘a sham’ and refused to sign it.
