Sportsbook.com, the largest online bookmaker and casino, has posted its latest odds for the Wild Card spots in the American League and National League races. There is still plenty for the teams to play for and the Division pennants competition the remains fierce.
In the National League favourites for Wild Cards, The Marlins (11-10) and Astros (6-5) can barely be separated, but with the Astros lagging far behind St Louis in the Central Division. Close behind are the Philadelphia Phillies at 5-1, with the other contenders well off the pace.
“The NL race has shaken up significantly from the beginning of the season,” reckons Sportsbook.com’s odds maker, Peter Childs. “Atlanta and Washington have faded from the top since the beginning of the summer, in July they posted odds of 8-1 and 6-1 respectively, but have fallen off the radar to long shots at 50 – 1 and 35-1.”
The American league sees Cleveland clear favourites at 11-10 with the New York Yankees their nearest rivals at 2-1, other teams with a chance of a Wild Card spot are Oakland Athletics at 4-1 and LA Angels at 6-1.
“No one would have believed back in July that Steinbrenner’s squad wouldn’t make the playoffs, but that looks like a distinct possibility right now. There are a lot of nervous baseball fans in the Bronx,” Childs summed up.
