Hurricane Evacuee Wins Massive Jackpot
A New Orleans storm victim who spent just $4.25 in a slot machine has won a $1.6 million jackpot.
The woman was en route to a discount store when she stopped to play at Louisiana's Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino.
Jacquelyn Sherman, said: “I am a casino fanatic; it relaxes my nerves. I like winning but I never expected to win like this.'”
Sherman had been sleeping on her sister's floor in Opelousas, Louisiana, since Hurricane Katrina ravaged her house and killed hundreds of New Orleans residents in late August.
Sherman said she is determined to find a new, comfortable home back in the Big Easy.
