Challenge to Televise 888.com UK Poker Open for Second Year

Flextech owned games entertainment channel Challenge TV has acquired the exclusive television rights to broadcast the 888.com UK Poker Open for the second year running. The 888.com UK Poker Open has one of the biggest prize funds of any offline poker tournament in the UK- set at a staggering $1,080,000.

The deal was negotiated between Jonathan Webb of Challenge TV and Matchroom Sport Ltd, who are filming and producing the event respectively. The $1million tournament, won last year by snooker champion Matthew Stevens, will feature 108 players, including 8 celebrities, 30 online qualifiers and 70 professional poker players, with buy in to the contest set at $10,000 a seat.

From 24th October, Challenge TV will air 22 programmes at 11pm every night, with the final currently scheduled in for 20th November. As gambling continues to grow as Britain's favourite pastime, 888.com is hoping the tournament will help introduce new consumers to the world of poker in a fun and entertaining way.

'We are very excited about the new deal with Challenge TV. Last year's tournament proved to be very successful. This year we have a stronger field with competitors from all around the world. This promises to be one of the most exciting televised poker tournaments this year,' Matt Robinson, UK Marketing Manager for 888.com, said.
