Compared to the enormous jackpots paid out at the major U.S. tournaments, $382,000 may seem like a small prize, but in British Columbia it is a record breaker.
The British Columbia Poker Championships, held recently in Richmond, B.C., awarded James Hawkins of Salt Spring Island the highest poker prize allowed by law.
The four-day Texas hold'em event at River Rock Casino went into the early hours of the morning before James Hawkins took the grand prize of $382,000. Hawkins said that he's been playing poker for a couple of years and this was only his second tournament.
