As if keeping up to date with the WPT and WSOP – amongst others poker tours – wasn’t hard enough, the North American Poker Tour has just announced dates for its inaugural season. To further confuse the issue, the tour has also changed its name to the International Poker Association Tour in the hope of broadening out from the US.
The first IPA tour event is due to take place at Hollywood Park Casino between May 9 and 18, with No-Limit tournaments ranging from $300 to $2,000. These will run alongside a $5,000 Chinese poker event and a yet-to-be-finalised $5,000 mixed game. This however, will all be child’s play compared to the main event, a $10,000 No-Limit event with a $2 million prize pot where players have either qualified by invite, world ranking or through satellite tournaments.
The IPA tour hopes that this will help them compete from the start with the WPT and WSOP. If they can carry off the event in Hollywood, then the IPA may just believe that they can take their tour from strength to strength and really offer some stiff competition to the big boys.
