Riding to Poker Glory For Charity

Throw the word “poker” through a Google news search and your guaranteed to find a story about a local charity using the poker boom to raise some funds and give participants a good time. The stories are all well and good, but are normally not much to write home about. Until now that is.

The Punta Gorda Riding Association in Desoto County, have just held one of the most bizarre poker games ever. The idea is actually pretty simple. Riders pay $10 to buy-in, head off on a marked trail and at seven different points reached into a blue bucket and pull out a sealed envelope containing a card. At the end of the day the player with the best hand wins and the charity gets some publicity for holding a truly insane version of the world’s favourite card game. Some folks loved it so much they went back and did it again. Surely, someone, somewhere wants to launch this as a national sport.
