Binions Horseshoe Returns to Centre Stage

Having spent 34 years as the home of the World Series of Poker, Binions Horseshoe in Las Vegas is set to return to centre stage with the American Poker Player Championship.

The event takes place between May 10 and 24 with buy-ins ranging from $330 to $5,300 for the No-Limit Championship on May 22. Between 1970 and 2004, the venue hosted the WSOP, which is now held down the road at the Rio after Harrah’s Entertainment bought Binions Horseshoe just to get control of the WSOP brand. Some might call this churlish, others simply a pretty neat way of getting what you want.

Two years ago, the venue looked set for permanent closure after US Marshals seized cash to pay outstanding debts, kicking what punters it had at the time out onto the street. Whatever way you look at it, it’s a welcome return for one of the true spiritual homes of the game.
