Online Poker Helps Make NBA All-Stars
While most sportsmen choose to spend their breaks during games taking on fluids and psyching themselves for the next play, Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards chooses to play poker online. The point guard, who has helped guide the Wizards to the playoffs in two successive seasons, says that it helps keeps his mind going and provides an excellent mental challenge.
According to teammates, this means that Arenas is totally focused on his screen when sitting by his locker, rather than figuring out strategies. To be fair to him, a spot of Texas Hold’em can’t be hurting him seeing as he captains the side, is fourth in the league scoring rankings and has become an NBA all-star for his all round first class play.
Although his coaches have concerns about his off-court activities, especially since a young Arenas missed training for a few games of pool, they need not worry. In fact, with the way he’s playing right now, they’d do well to kit out the entire home locker room with some online poker and get everybody involved.
