Poker the President’s Game of Choice

Plenty of people would say President Bush likes to gamble in his political life. How many though, would know that the Commander-in-Chief has been able to relax away from the stresses of day-to-day government with a swift game of poker. Because as part of his annual disclosure of gifts from colleagues, diplomats, foreign dignitaries and rock stars, Bush has revealed that he received a poker set worth $900. Although it is unclear what is actually in the set, other than cards, chips and possibly a table, that makes it worth so much, it is comforting to think that the most prominent leader in the world can spend his time playing poker with the likes of Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice while deciding what to do next about illegal immigration, Iran and oil prices.

Sadly, no one knows whether Bush has become part of the poker boom that’s sweeping the United States, but with his apparent dislike of email and modern teachnology, it’s a sure bet that he hasn’t found his favourite online casino. There’s time yet though George.
