With Burt Reynolds’ already lining up to star in poker movie ‘Deal’, Hollywood producers have seen fit to commission another picture, this time starring Eric Bana as a poker pro who learns ‘valuable life lessons’ from Drew Barrymore and Robert Duvall (in older poker pro mode).
Although both movies seem to have the shmaltz factor turned up to 11, Bana’s film, called ‘Lucky You’, does have the distinct advantage of World Series of Poker backing. This means that not only will it feature a couple of Hollywood A-listers, but also a roll call of famous poker faces. Doyle Brunson, Chris Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth and Jack Binion are just a few who will either play themselves, or fictionalised versions, at the baize. Brunson also served as a consultant on the movie, which has just completed seven weeks shooting in Vegas before returning to LA.
Scenes are based on WSOP events, with sets of the Bellagio, Binions and the Aladdin all being included. All things considered, even if the film sucks, it’ll be worth going just to try and spot every poker pro on screen.
