You can go ahead and mark us down on the “Under” here. In fact, we may play “Under” each and every time Milwaukee takes the field for the rest of the season. If you have not noticed, the Brewers are getting amazing pitching out of both their starters and their bullpen. At the same time, Milwaukee’s offensive production has been downright … offensive. The Brew Crew is 0-3 (o/u) their last three games overall and 3-13 (o/u) their past sixteen games overall. Milwaukee also checks in at 37-55 (o/u) for the season, 20-27 (o/u) in road games and 31-47 (o/u) vs. right-handed starting pitchers. Those are blind 60%, 57% and 60% long term “Under” trends, respectively. From a pure technical perspective, we should note that the Beer Makers are 14-32 (o/u) following a loss this year, 2-17 (o/u) following 2 straight losses and a perfect 0-6 (o/u) following three straight losses. Those happen to be 70%, 89% and 100% “Under” trends.
As it pertains to today, Milwaukee will send Capuano to the hill. He checks in with a solid 3.47 ERA and 1.324 WHIP overall. More importantly, Milwaukee is now 0-5 (o/u) his past five starts and 3-8 (o/u) in his eleven season starts. We should also mention that the Brewers bullpen checks in with a very nice 3.76 ERA, which is 10th best out of thirty MLB teams. As for Milwaukee’s offense, they are producing a whopping 1.75 runs per contest their last eight games overall and have scored exactly zero runs in their last two games overall. Milwaukee is actually 29th out of thirty teams in the Major Leagues in runs scored, 27th in home runs, 29th in RBI, 26th in batting AVG, 21st in OBP, 28th in SLG, and 28th in OPS. We are pretty certain the Astros Clemens will hold his own vs. this line up.
Clemens has been spectacular this season, carrying a 2.62 ERA and 1.156 WHIP overall, along with a 2.39 ERA and 1.046 WHIP when at home. The Astros are now 0-4-1 (o/u) in Clemens past five starts and 5-13 (o/u) in his eighteen starts overall. The average total runs produced in Houston games when Clemens is on the hill is 7.11 runs. This number drops to 5.0 runs in Clemens past three starts. When you combine the Brewers terrific pitching, horrendous hitting and the proverbial Clemens factor, we cannot see this game producing anywhere near 9 runs, which is what it would take for us to lose. Play the “Under” here.
