Nevada has reported a record financial month, with a total revenue of US$908.2 million gained from gambling revenue in May. This figure shows a 12.7 percent increase compared to May 2003. The state Gaming Control Board released the May figures, as well as the overall state revenue figures for the year so far: at US$677.5 million- an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year.
This figure of US$ 908.2 million has been broken down to demonstrate the areas that gained the revenue: US$592.5 million coming from slot machines and US$307 million from table games. Games wise the breakdown available is: blackjack at $117.6 million; craps at $42.6 million; and baccarat at $25.3 million. Poker games won $8.8 million. Dollar slots won $93.4 million; quarter slots won $155 million; nickel slots won $106.4 million; and multi-denomination slots won $141 million.
The state is enjoying a prosperous year with this being the fourth consecutive month bearing record figures for casinos. The increases in gambling revenue are also good news for the state as a whole –with the US$38.1 million increase in the casino revenues compared to the projections made last year- helping to contribute to the overall state general fund currently being US$ 100 million ahead of projections.
Frank Streshley of the Control Board, made the following comment regarding the state’s recent successes, 'We've seen a turnaround in the economy and a resurgence of travel back to Las Vegas, especially the Strip.'
