Daniel Phillips Becomes the English Amateur Poker Champion
The Amateur Poker Association and Tour’s first live event, the English Amateur Poker Championship, was won by Daniel Phillips from Tamworth, UK, who won a cash prize described as “significant,” an expenses paid trip and entry into the EPT Copenhagen event in January 2007 and an engraved Championship trophy along with the Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT) winners gold medal.
The event, which took place at the Broadway Casino in Birmingham between September 23 and 24, was substantially oversubscribed and 120 runners sat down to compete for the title. Players began with 10,000 starting chips and a structure designed to encourage creative play throughout the competition.
The APAT is the world’s first combined poker association and tour. The tour allows APAT members to take part in a series of high profile events with low entry fees, and with sponsor funding increasing the value of prizes considerably. Season one will feature seven national and international events culminating in European and World Amateur Poker Championships.
