Online Casino Popularity Growing Amongst Students
In a recent report on the boom of online casino usage by college campus students, NewsChannel5 has determined that many students have turned to the online gaming industry to help with spiralling tuition costs.
Ohio State University conducted a survey of around 3,500 students and their gambling habits, resulting in 14 percent admitting to have participated in online gambling. Experts suggest that televised poker tournaments have been pivotal in spurring interest in online games, sending the number of online casino and poker sites soaring from fewer than 25 sites 11 years ago, to its current amount of over 2,000.
Operators within the industry, such as Absolutepoker.com, have been taking advantage of the boom in its student population by introducing bespoke tournaments where college students compete in free poker tournaments to win a semester of tuition.
Absolutepoker spokesperson Jason Reindorp commented: 'We're responding to the demand. These are pretty savvy students who are very responsible and know what they're getting into.'
