Caesars croupiers add a union to their hand
Dealers at Caesars Atlantic City have learned that big bosses have decided not to challenge a proposal for a croupier union, the International Herald Tribune reports.
Caesars' parent company, Harrah's Entertainment, has bypassed the deadline for objecting to a vote by workers to form the first union for dealers in Atlantic City in 25 years.
The March 17th unionisation vote saw 572 casino workers beat 128 naysayers, and now the proposals for a union to protect 900 dealers, keno and simulcast employees can be put into place, after the National Labour Relations Board certified the election results.
"This is another important step in winning a strong voice for casino workers in Atlantic City," Elizabeth Bunn, the national secretary treasurer of the union, said. "We're proud to assist workers at Caesars, Trump and all Atlantic City casinos in this historic city-wide organising effort." Unionisation talks have been ongoing at other Atlantic City gambling dens and dealers at the Trump Plaza will be the next to table a similar proposal when a workers' ballot takes place on March 31st.
