Recovered rock wreckage returned to the Biloxi
Elvis Presley's army uniform, BB King's original guitar "Lucille" and the guitars of Johnny Cash and KISS will be returned to the display cases of the Hard Rock Casino when it opens for business in July, the Biloxi Sun Herald reports.
The memorabilia was lost when Hurricane Katrina swept through Missouri in August 2005, devastating the Biloxi casino just two days before it was scheduled to open.
The items are in varying conditions of repair after being retrieved in the Mississippi Sound. Joe Billhimer, the casino's chief executive officer, told the Herald that everything else in the casino would be in pristine condition, including a display honouring James Brown.
"It's a big deal for us to get back open, but we do think it's also a big deal for people on the coast to see it back open," said Billhimer. "It keeps revitalisation going. It shows that we and a lot of others believe in the revitalisation of the coast."
The refurbished casino is reinforced against any other storms that might come its way, sitting atop a construction of concrete pilings driven 90 feet into the ground anchored by 12 inches of concrete slab.
The casino boasts 1,453 slot machines, 50 table games and six poker tables.
