Nail-biting climax for Nottingham's supercasino hopes

Dusk Till Dawn Poker hopes to open a £7 million gaming mecca in Nottingham, but although the firm has already received permission from the Gambling Commission, bosses still have to beat city magistrates to get a licence.

The company's owner, Robert Yong, described the situation as "a gamble because in the UK you have to secure your premises before you can apply for a licence".

Dusk Till Dawn is playing for high stakes as it has also secured 3,600 members already, who won't be best pleased if the gambling firm's luck isn't in with the magistrates.

Punters would be treated to 50 poker tables, a restaurant and a bar within the 15,000 square ft premises, making it the potentially biggest casino in Europe.

Mr Young pleaded his case: "The club has been a huge boost to the economy in Nottingham already. We have spent £4 million building Europe's biggest poker club and another £3 million on a 15-year lease, proving our commitment to the city."

And the summing up? "We will be making Nottingham one of the world's biggest poker centres," concluded Mr Young. Oh please, your honour?
