MTV to host awards in mecca
MTV's 24th annual Video Music Awards (VMAs) will be hosted at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas this year, exploiting the variety of the casino layout to elaborate performances.
Rock stars will be strumming in cosy hotel suites and blasting their riffs out from the rooftop garden in an unprecedented move for MTV, which will air the whole VMA weekend only once in its entirety.
Music fans who miss the extravaganza on September 9th will only be able to catch edited highlights.
The Palms, owned by the Maloof family, has 703 suites and 95,000 square feet of gaming space. "The VMAs have a tradition of creating some of the most unforgettable moments in pop culture history and now, this year's show is ready for its next act. We're deconstructing every expectation of what an awards show should be to deliver a music experience for our audience unlike anyone else connecting them beyond television," said Christina Norman, MTV's president.
"We knew that we didn't have to look any further than the Maloofs and the Palms Casino Resort as they are the perfect partners and have the infamous reputation of throwing star-studded events. We look forward to a weekend of rock 'n' roll chaos and producing the most sinful and explosive musical showcase of the year."
