Poker club lucks out
Poker players can often be a superstitious bunch, believing that their luck is in the lap of the gods.
So some players may be choosing to stay away from one club in New York in future, which has suffered a rather unfortunate downturn in luck recently.
The poker room was robbed on Friday, with the thieves making off with around $50,000 in cash from the scene.
However, when the crime was reported and the police arrived, a man believed to be the owner of the club was arrested for running an illegal poker club!
The poker room was believed to have been frequented by sports and television stars alike, including Robert Iler, of Sopranos fame, so it is perhaps not surprising that the two armed gunmen decided to choose the place as a good target for some big money.
But the players will be more than a little disappointed with the police's response, charging the man believed to be in charge of the poker room with "promoting gambling and possessing book-making supplies".
To make matters even worse for the luckless owners, the club had only been reopened for six months after a previous bust by police had shut it down, because although it is illegal in New York for owners of clubs to take cuts of bets made by poker players.
