Wild Card Poker Auditions Open
The Calvin Ayre Wild Card poker reality show is holding open auditions for contestants in its second series. Most of the twelve contestants will be selected on the back of one minute video submissions sent in to Bodog’s online poker site. Some of these are already posted there, and make great viewing. An online poker tournament will also select one lucky player.
Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on Las Vegas Blvd. South will be opening up the Sapphire 2 room between noon and 5 pm from the 5th to the 8th of July. One contestant will be selected this way, and the organisers have stressed that players of all levels are welcome. All applicants must be at least 21 years old, and carry a photo ID.
There are some changes from the immensely popular first series. First of all the prize money is now huge: $1 million cash and $1 million of sponsorship will go to the final player standing at the end of the series. The show will be filmed in British Columbia, Canada, not Costa Rica, where immigration and other officials mistakenly stormed his compound during the last series’ final day of filming. Rumour has it that they simply wanted to attend the party; they are reported to have demolished the buffet and stripped naked to swim in his pool.
Ayre routinely thumbs his nose at American Justice Department officials with his online gambling empire which Forbed.com dubbed the MySpace of poker. It remains to be seen whether the Department will risk making itself hugely unpopular and provoking more protest against the ban by challenging the contest.
