UK bookmaker and online casino provider William Hill has announced that it has partnered up with Spanish gaming group Codere, owner of several bingo, horsetrack and related betting operations in Spain and South America, to become the joint forerunners in Spain’s sport betting market.
The two companies have confirmed that they have signed a memorandum of understanding and have outlined plans to create a joint sports betting venture as soon as a decree is passed to license sports betting companies in that country.
David Harding, Chief Executive of William Hill, said: “We are very excited about this opportunity. The combination of William Hill's bookmaking expertise and Codere’s leadership position in gaming in the Spanish-speaking world creates a very strong team to take advantage of sports betting regulation in Spain.”
Spain is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after gambling markets in Europe, but the country has yet to grant licences for private companies wishing to operate sports betting businesses.
