Three Nottingham casinos have successfully blocked the Dusk till Dawn (DTD) bid for the UK’s largest poker room licence, on the grounds that there is not enough business to support a large card room in the area.

Gala, Stanley’s and London Clubs International forced a compulsory adjournment of the hearing at Nottingham Magistrates Court, which means that the case will not be re-opened for another four months.

In line with UK licensing regulations, many preparations for the £7m poker complex had already been made. The retail park premises have space for 50 ten seat poker tables, restaurant/bar and a TV studio. Key staff had also been recruited.

However, DTD’s managing director, Rob Young, was resolute, committed to the city with £3m of investment and a 15 year lease, he explained, “Each month that we are delayed will cost a further £100,000 in wages and running costs. I have never made anyone redundant in my life, and am committed to seeing this through until the end.”

The ruling comes despite 3,000 applications for membership, even though the club was not due to open until November. Young added, “This is just an attempt by the big boys to bleed us dry.”
