Google and Yahoo Pull Poker Ads

Google and Yahoo have announced their intention to pull online casino advertising by the end of April – a move which is certain to have a detrimental effect on the runaway success of the Internet poker industry. Spokespersons for the two companies have said that advertising will cease altogether in the U.S., where federal prosecutors are threatening litigation against companies that do business with Internet casinos, on the basis that they are ‘aiding and abetting’ illegal gambling. Versions of the search engines where online gambling is legal, however, will retain the adverts.

Google and Yahoo are the most widely used search engines in the world and the new policy is bound to affect the business of an Industry which, in the last few years has been the Internet success story. The California-based companies declined to comment as to whether they had been the subjects of investigation by federal authorities.
