European Commission to Meet with Gaming Industry
Leading figures from the European Parliament and Commission will address the Legal Gaming in Europe conference on January 22-23.
Key members of the European government departments including Jean Bergevin (European Commission), Christopher Fjellner (European Parliament) and Prof Dr Kurt Schelter (former Minister of Justice and European Affairs of Brandenburg), will attend the conference in London to outline the key objectives of Article 49, the services directive, and attempt to drive home the need for harmonisation and legislation of gaming laws across Europe.
Over eighty different gaming related companies have secured a place at the convention as the industry scrutinises European gaming legislation in preparation for expansion into new European markets.
Gaming companies in attendance include Bwin, Party, 24hNetwork, Svenska Spel, Betfair, Bingo.com, Gala, Gaming VC, NordicBet, Norwegian Gaming Board, PAF, SportingBet, Probability, Supersport, Trident Gaming and Playtech.
Michael Setters from conference organisers – Bullet Business – explained, “With the upcoming UK Gambling Act, the recent actions in Holland, Germany, France and Italy in relation to gaming, and the lack of a common platform we felt it pertinent to bring the stakeholders together with a view to moving discussion forwards.”
He added, “Obviously having the European Commission and Parliament present represents a major opportunity for the industry to get answers to their most important questions.”
