Loose Cannon to herald global poker
The National Poker League (NPL) is to begin its first-ever UK Open competition at the Loose Cannon Club on London as part of the NPL 2007 World Circuit Tour.
Starting at the famed poker venue on August 12th, the Texas Hold'em tournament will feature a range of buy-in prices and will culminate on August 18th in compelling action on the final table.
While the champion of the NPL UK Open will win a tidy sum in cash, he or she will also be presented with a special silver-plated cup.
And to assuage the disappointment of those who do not win, all players will be invited to a charity event at the Loose Cannon, where they can mingle with VIP special guests and bid in a silent auction to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.
"We are extremely pleased that the Loose Cannon Club has partnered with the NPL to host our first international televised poker tournament in Europe," said Sam Riddle, president of NPL's Television division. "We will be filming throughout the qualifying rounds and producing six one-hour episodes of the UK Open."
After London, the NPL 2007 World Circuit Tour will visit Monte Carlo, Manila and Toronto before stopping in Las Vegas for the Vegas Open and the World Championship Table in December 2007. The final event will be a £2,500 buy-in with a prize pool around the £500,000 mark.
