Spiderman leads celebrity pack at WSOP main event
While many celebrities show their poker faces at the World Series Of Poker's (WSOP) Main Event, one of the hot favourites to go some distance is Spiderman actor, Tobey Maguire.
While some of the stars are clearly there for the publicity, some of the celebs are serious contenders at poker tourneys.
Actress Jennifer Tilly is a case in point, winning the WSOP ladies event in 2005 and having cashed in three times at earlier events, the Associated Press reports.
"The last few years, the person who won the World Series was not a professional," Ms Tilly said. "It takes intuition and skill and also a lot of luck. So really anybody can win the World Series of Poker, even a celebrity." This year, however the actress did not have the cards to win through her first day, busting before the dinner break.
Meanwhile some celebrities have sailed through their first day, such as Tobey Maguire and Everybody Loves Raymond's Brad Garrett.
However, despite the coaching of poker legend Annie Duke, American Pie star Shannon Elizabeth also crashed out of the tournament along with several sports stars.
After holding the chip lead at one point, meanwhile, talk show presenter Montel Williams is still in the running although his 150,000 are now down to 20,900.
Yet several poker fans have touted Tobey Maguire as the celebrity most likely to triumph, pointing out his perfect poker disposition.
