Main event kicks off at WSOP
The final and main event of the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) has finally got underway on the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Event 55, which is the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold'em competition, has started, with 12,000 poker fans competing to win the $12 million prize and coveted WSOP bracelet for placing first as tournament champion.
There will be four start dates to accommodate the massive field of players and 1,287 players started their campaign to be crowned overall winner on the first of them.
After the registration deadline on July 9th, official statistics for participation and prize money for the 38th Annual World Series of Poker will be made known, but so far over $100 million has gone into poker players' pockets. Some 54 winners have been named, the most ever in WSOP tournaments after a record number of events were scheduled.
"This has been the best World Series of Poker in the tournament's 38-year history and this will be the best Main Event ever," said World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack."
