It seems that poker is becoming even more mainstream, as recently Kentucky Fried Chicken served up an advert featuring three prominent poker faces.
According to Pokerlistings.com, US TV channel ESPN broadcast a commercial for KFC featuring Paul Wasicka, Gavin Smith and David Williams. The advert debuted during ESPN's broadcast of the Main Event at the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) 2007. It played on the three players' skill at judging their opponents' hands, while they enjoyed a KFC meal.
Poker Royalty, the agency representing the three poker players said that is was good for poker to be aligned with a major brand.
"This is a great step forward for Gavin, Paul, David and poker in general," said Brian Balsbaugh, president of Poker Royalty. "Having KFC, the leading chicken chain in the world, embracing poker signals that the poker industry is quickly emerging as a viable outlet for sponsors to achieve their marketing and advertising goals."
However, KFC has bee involved in the poker industry before, as last year the chicken chain sposored Poker SuperStars III.
Meanwhile, Wasicka commented: "This new relationship with KFC presents me with a fantastic opportunity to reach a broader base of fans. It was an honour to be asked to work with them."
