In the US, a 23-year-old professional online poker player has achieved his inaugural first-place finish in a major live event.

Jordan Morgan from Oklahoma won a heads-up match for the championship in the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) Tunica, Mississippi, circuit after three days of solid play. He has been playing online poker professionally for two years but had yet to reach the top in a live game until he beat amateur player Terry Hawkins on Thursday.

Morgan took the chip lead and kept his focus using his aggressive style to help him win one of his largest paydays to date, $213,288 in prize money, $1,000 in expenses, a gold Circuit ring and a $10,000 buy-in to the WSOP 2008 Main Event. Tennessee native Hawkins didn’t walk away empty handed as he won $111,911 for his second place finish.

Both of Morgan’s parents were on hand to witness their son's first major live tournament victory with his mother not able to hold back the tears as she gave her son a congratulatory hug. He was very gracious after his victory and gave autographs to fans and allowed them to take photos with him.
