$50,000 Fantasy Football Contest Won at Sportsbook.com
December 3, 2004 (London, UK) He'd barely completed his registration form at Sportsbook.com (www.sportsbook.com) when Esequiel Aguirre won the $50,000 grand prize in the Sportsbook.com Fantasy Football Contest. The Contest was launched two years ago -- but Aguirre is its first winner, and remarkably, he won just two days after registering.
For its popular Fantasy Football Contest, Sportsbook.com selects 50 football players and grades their performances based on their positions. For example, kickers are rated based on their field goals, extra points, etc. Offensive players are rated based on their passing touchdowns, rushing yards, interceptions, etc. Out of 50 possible players, Aguirre picked the 5 best performing of the week. That earned him 211 points -- the highest score anyone could have gotten this week. For his fantasy team, Aguirre picked Edgerrin James, Michael Vick, Brett Favre, Daunte Culpepper and Trent Green.
'Whoo Whee, I didn't expect to win!' exclaimed the surprised winner. 'In fact, I never thought someone would win the top prize. Picking the top 5 out of 50 is kinda hard. But here I am, and miraculously, I won it.'
Prior to Aguirre's picks, the closest anyone had gotten to winning the $50,000 bounty was within 6 points, during the 2004 season.
