Victoria, the joint partnership between Spanish group Codere and Bookies William Hill, is set to roll out its sports betting operations in the Madrid region in late 2007 and in the Basque region in 2008.
In June the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding and outlined plans to become the joint forerunners in Spain’s sportsbetting market, capitalising on Codere’s established bingo, horsetrack and related betting operations in Spain and South America.
In a June article on gaming news site ATE online, David Harding, Chief Executive of William Hill, said: “We are very excited about this opportunity. The combination of William Hill's bookmaking expertise and Codere’s leadership position in gaming in the Spanish-speaking world creates a very strong team to take advantage of sports betting regulation in Spain.”
The estimated cost of establishing sportsbetting operations in each region is approximately €20 million, which will be divided equally between both companies.
