Dusk Till Dawn, which is currently Europe's largest poker room, could become the UK's first legal poker club, depending upon the outcome of a hearing at Nottingham Magistrates Court on September 24th for a casino licence.

However the city's three largest casinos - Gala, Stanleys and London Clubs International - are objecting to the licence, claiming there is "insufficient demand".

Yet, Rob Young, managing director of Dusk Till Dawn, argued: "This has nothing to do with 'insufficient demand', it's just an attempt by the big boys to keep a stranglehold on their monopoly. They only care about profits and not about their players."

The case will be heard by three magistrates, who are expected to deliver their decision after four days.

Dusk Till Dawn, which has already gained a Certificate of Consent and has the Gaming Board's support, is hoping for a positive ruling, which would make it nearly four times bigger than the biggest poker room in the UK.

It could accommodate 405 players were it to be granted the licence and would also create more than one hundred new jobs.

In the club's favour is the revenue that Nottingham would gain from tax and tourism, as the club could play host to major international poker tournaments.
