PPA’s Kentucky Campaign

In the US, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has announced an advocacy campaign in support of poker in the southern state of Kentucky.

This move follows an about-face from current Governor Ernie Fletcher as he had pledged to allow Kentuckians to vote on allowing table gaming in the state before changing his mind, even though the activity is allowed in the nearby states of Indiana, West Virginia and Ohio.

The PPA’s Kentucky State Director, Rich Muny, said that the organization has initiated a statewide effort to encourage all Kentucky poker players to contact the Governor and other local and state politicians to express their opposition to any anti-poker efforts. He also warned that the 760,000 members of the PPA in Kentucky would take these same feelings to the polls in November when the state votes for a Governor.

“Governor Fletcher is running not on his achievements of the past four years but on a campaign of distraction,” said Muny. “In the process, Fletcher has demonised the good folks who enjoy the game of poker. Indiana has casinos with card rooms, built right on Kentucky’s borders, as do other states. Kentucky deserves to keep this revenue in our own state for the benefit of our own citizens. Additionally, our citizens deserve the freedom to choose to play a hand of poker.”

He said that several hundred e-mails had already been sent to the Governor’s office with many more forthcoming.
