Among the famous poker faces set to star in the London leg of the European Poker Tour (EPT), which is just kicking off, will be former Eastenders actor Michael Greco, who will have to work hard to beat last year's champion Victoria Coren.
The EPT is predicted to be the largest poker tourney ever played in the UK, with more than 400 poker fans competing for a dip into the prize pool and a chance to take the title.
Among the poker pros who will be at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino from September 25th to 29th for the fourth London EPT, Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Katja Thater, Hevad Khan and Gavin Griffin have already signed up.
The preliminaries to the EPT Main Event saw Thomas Bihl win a Seven Card Stud Tournament, joined at the final table by Willie Tann, Michael Greco and Paul Parker.
John Duthie, founder of the EPT, said: "The PokerStars.com London EPT is like no other event in the sporting calendar. Set at 'the Vic' - the casino that is the spiritual home of poker in London - the London EPT brings together world champions, the best British and European professionals, as well as talented amateurs and online qualifiers to compete for one of poker's biggest prizes.
"Last year's London EPT saw a hugely popular winner in Vicky Coren and as a cash game regular at the Vic, she will definitely have 'home field advantage' as she tries to retain her title. The London EPT 2006 was the biggest live poker tournament ever held in the UK and we expect this years event to be even more successful."
