Florida Attorney General Pro-UIGEA

The top law enforcement official in the American state of Florida has written an article clarifying his support for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) legislation and accusing some in the online gambling industry of fraud.

Appearing in the weekly Florida Baptist Witness newspaper, Ira ‘Bill’ McCollum’s piece said that ‘cyber casinos cannot accurately check a person's identification to verify age’ and that UIGEA ‘has effectively prevented illicit gambling operators from doing business in Florida and has helped reduce the dangers of convenience gambling’.

A member of the Baptist faith, newly elected McCollum is a member of the Republican Party and previously served in the United States House of Representatives for a central Florida constituency for 20 years.

“Additionally, there is no way to ensure that the odds are fair and accurate and fraud runs rampant through the system,” read McCollum’s piece. “Internet operators often shut down their websites when too many bettors try to claim their winnings.'

His words come despite protests from many in the industry who attest that not once has there been a complaint of an online casino site that left the market instantly without allowing winning players to cash in.
