Muscle Man to Face Online Casino Charges
According to a statement from The Office of the New Jersey Attorney General, a former bodybuilding champion and alleged member of the Philadelphia mob has been indicted on further charges following his arrest on allegations that he ran an online gambling operation.
Vincent 'Big Vince' Filipelli is currently in detention at the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center awaiting sentencing on earlier Federal extortion-related charges associated with taking bets online through an unidentified website.
Peter Aseltine, a spokesman for The Office of the New Jersey Attorney General, stated that Filipelli became the target of an investigation by New Jersey State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2005 and pleaded guilty to interstate travel in aid of racketeering and could now face up to 20 years in Federal prison.
The new charges relate to possession of steroids and money laundering following a raid on Filipelli’s home a year ago where police uncovered gambling records, numerous vials of steroids, hypodermic needles and two stun guns.
Police allege that Filipelli ran an online sportsbetting operation for several years with a conspirator, William Motto, having also pleaded guilty to charges that he promoted gambling through the undisclosed website in September.
It was alleged by police at the time of his arrest that Filipelli threatened an undercover agent with physical harm over a gambling debt incurred on the website last year during a meeting in the car park of the Crazy Horse Too, a South Philadelphia gentlemen's club.
