Casino defies smoking ban
Although much of the US is now subject to a smoking ban in public places, in one Colorado casino, gamblers are still lighting up legally.
According to Anorak website, Tuesday was the first day when the smoking ban in casinos came into effect in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek.
Yet punters at the Wild Card Casino in Black Hawk have been able to smoke tobacco due to a loophole in the law.
Gina Miller, a manager at Wild Card Casino, said due to the fact that the casino runs a shop selling tobacco products, players are still allowed to smoke.
Due to the fact that cigars and cigarettes can be bought at the casino, Ms Miller says the casino is "operating under the law" as a cigar bar.
But, Stephanie Steinberg of Smoke-Free Gaming of Colorado laments: "The Wild Card Casino is clearly a casino and has always operated as a casino. If they think they are a cigar bar then they shouldn't have slot machines or a gaming license for that matter."
However, if a gambler were to suffer a heart attack at one of the US' cigar/bars casinos, then he or she would have a better chance of survival than if they were sent to hospital.
According to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine, heart attack victims are twice as likely to survive a heart attack in a casino, where shockingly defibrillation is likely to be performed quicker than in a hospital.
