A One In Ten Million Win
In America, a 92-year-old grandfather defied odds of over ten million to one last week to win in excess of $21 million playing International Game Technology's Megabucks slot machine.
Elmer Sherwin took home $21.1 million after hitting the jackpot at the Cannery Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He previously won $4.6 million in 1989 while playing the machine at the Mirage to make him a double winner on the machine, a feat unheard of in the gambling world.
The Las Vegas resident stated that he wanted to win the award for a second time ever since his first major win and will now try for a third prize.
'I'm glad I finally hit as I've been trying to do it again,' said Sherwin.
Megabucks is a one-dollar slot machine with a building jackpot requiring a three-dollar bet to hit the top prize, which is paid in annual instalments or as a lump sum. The jackpot resets at seven million dollars after it is hit and begins to build until one lucky player lines up the Megabucks symbols on the machine.
