Austria's state-controlled Osterreichische Lotterien and Casinos Austria opened their new online poker room, Win2Day, on the Boss Media Poker network, a site which was developed in partnership with Sweden's government-owned gaming monopoly, Svenska Spel.

The site has been set up both to help the Austrian government benefit from the poker boom as well as trying to tackle problem gambling by limiting bets on the site to just over $1,000 per week for any one player.

'Poker is still booming in Austria, and we had a 300-per-cent increase in poker playing guests from our off line poker games in 2007', said Karl Stoss, General Director at Casinos Austria. 'We hope to capture a substantial part of the Austrian online poker market with our responsible approach, just as our colleagues at Svenska Spel did when they launched with Boss Media in 2006,' he added.

'We are proud that this is the second government-controlled poker network to operate on a Boss Media solution,' said Michael Hallen, CEO for Boss Media.

'We are confident that more government-controlled gaming operators will consider online poker during 2008 and 2009 and we intend to maintain our current strong position in this segment.'
